Start off with your text on canvas however you want. Choose a very bold font, I used Impact as it is most common.

Create Border Styles in Fireworks

Learn how to create simple borders & frames for pages or images in Fireworks MX 2004.

Fireworks MX has a range of stroke categories. You can change the stroke attributes of the Pen, Pencil, and Brush tools so that when you draw a vector object it takes up the new stroke attributes.

I have used some of these stroke categories to create colorful borders/frames and saved them as styles.

Functionality of Adobe Fireworks in your Design Workflow

Many web designers work exclusively with the Adobe Creative Suite to get work done.

Adobe Photoshop is the most common tool for graphics creation and manipulation along with Illustrator for freehand drawings.

Fireworks doesn’t get as much of the attention, but this doesn’t mean the software is also useless.

In fact Fireworks can be used hand-in-hand with Photoshop to create seamless mockup designs, wireframes, interface icons and so much more.

We’ll be taking a look into how you can incorporate Adobe Fireworks seamlessly into your design workflow.

Illustrator Live Trace

A reader raised the question why I don’t use the Live Trace instead of tracing the sketch with the Pen tool.

It’s simply because the lines of my sketch aren’t ‘clean’ enough to make it work with Live Trace. The outcome depends a lot on your orignal, as you can see here in these experiments.

Not that you can’t do magic tricks with this tool, of course you can.

If I traced my pencil drawing first with a thin black marker and scanned this version of the image, it might have been perfect to use Live Trace instead.

I simply wanted to show how the Pen tool works and how I draw most of my illustrations, that was the point of the movie.

Mega List of Free Custom Vector Shapes for Adobe Photoshop - Part I

I also love using them for as badges or buttons on web sites.

I have collected a huge selection of free custom Photoshop shapes. If you download every single one of these, there are probably close to 15,000 free Adobe Photoshop shapes.

There are more to come in Part II.

Enjoy.

Photoshop: The “Pixelated” Brush Problem

This question has come in through various channels recently, so I thought I’d do a write up on a quick fix.

If you’ve ever wondered why your brushes look “pixelated,” there’s a perfectly good explanation.

Photoshop isn’t broken, you aren’t missing a setting, and you probably got here because you like keyboard shortcuts.
